Injection moulding is the choice for many multi-cavity, high volume orders that demand high-quality repeatable production. Once the initial tooling cost is accounted for, the component cost is less when compared to Compression or Transfer moulding, often offering big savings over larger volume runs.

The chosen compound is continuously fed into the injection press in a strip form after which then enters into the screw and barrel. The screw and barrel then heats up the compound ready for injection into a runner system that feeds the cavities in the tool. As the compound is partially heated during this process, the curing time is faster than that of the Compression or Transfer Methods, offering a shorter cycle time.

On completion of the predetermined cure time the press automatically opens, the parts are then removed from the tool, the press automatically closes and the cycle is repeated. As these presses are computer programmed, the future production of the same parts is consistently repeatable.

There are so many factors that contribute to the success of rubber injection moulding, from the design of a product through to selecting or developing the best rubber compound for the application, programming the machinery to developing the optimum operating conditions.
