Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer
Department: Quality Assurance
Reports to: Quality Manager
Hours of Work:
Monday-Thursday: 7:00am – 4:30pm (45-minute lunch break)
Friday: 7:00am to 12:00pm
Total: 40 hours/week
Role Overview: The Supplier Quality Engineer will drive continual improvement in supplier-related activities and metrics. They serve as the connection between the Company and the Supplier to ensure that outsourced material used in the production of our products meets the required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including audit findings, corrective actions, and regulatory submissions.
- Auditing: Conduct regular internal and supplier audits to assess compliance standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential risks associated with non-compliance and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
- Supplier Approval List: Maintain accurate records of the Supplier Approved list, ensuring that supplier surveys and certifications are kept up to date.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as manufacturing, procurement, and Engineering to ensure alignment on compliance efforts.
- Problem Solving and Root Cause Investigation: Utilise problem-solving techniques to investigate compliance issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Investigate root causes of supplier-related production problems and resolve issues.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance compliance processes and procedures to adapt to changing regulations and business needs. Develop strategies to reduce rejected materials and communicate with suppliers about issues like design changes, first article inspections, and corrective actions.
- Improvement in Production: Collaborate with production teams to identify opportunities for improvement in processes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Liaise with the production team to ensure quality standards are understood and met.
- Participate in quality control meetings and provide insights based on supplier visits
- Assist in training production staff on quality control procedures and best practices.
Qualifications:
- HNC/HND in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related field; other relevant qualifications will also be considered.
- Experience in lieu of formal education will be considered. In such cases, a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics is required.
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certification is advantageous. (this can be arranged if needed)
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a quality engineering role within a design and manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of problem-solving and using continuous improvement tools such as Root Cause Analysis and SPC analysis.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Knowledge of standard Mechanical Inspection techniques and tools.
- Experience with moulded and machined parts is advantageous.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with technical and non-technical personnel, including purchasing, production, and engineering teams.
- Proficiency in supplier evaluation techniques, with the ability to lead Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Strategic mindset to identify technical needs, coupled with a focus on program execution.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
- Familiarity with Lean principles and flow-line manufacturing.
Physical Requirements:
- Comfortable with face-to-face meetings with suppliers.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive for supplier visits and audits.
- This role requires travel to suppliers within the UK and occasionally to Europe. Flexibility to travel at short notice is expected
